Product Review: Clinique Lash Building Primer

I'm not sure whether I've mentioned this, but recently I've been having quite a lot of trouble with my mascaras. Pretty much all of them have been smudging and flaking, and literally ending up all over my face within a few hours. A few of them didn't even make it to an hour. Well that needed to change, I'm sick of having black eyes.

Well a few weeks ago, I was searching though my make up drawers and came across this Clinique Lash Building Primer. I won it last year in a giveaway and had completely forgotten about it (I know, naughty). I decided to try wearing it underneath my mascara to see if it would make any difference.

As you can see the primer is white, obviously lol, which most primers are and you apply one coat before mascara. Now this primer says it's supposed to condition and protect the lashes, I can't really say I've seen much difference in the condition of my lashes, yet, but I do love it for another reason, which I will get onto in a second.

Here's a before and after of my lashes.
Clinique Lash Building Primer
Sorry about the messy mascara application lol.

This primer helps keep my mascara on all day, without any flaking or smudging, I guess it gives the mascara something to grab hold of, so it stays in place. I was a little worried it would be hard to cover up all the white, but as you can see from the picture, it's pretty easy, it's mainly the little lashes in the corners you have to be careful with, I did miss a few lol. I doesn't make your lashes too clumpy either, which was another worry I had.

I'm so impressed, I was literally at the end of my tether and this primer came to my rescue, pretty much out of nowhere. In the picture I'm wearing Benefits They're Real mascara, which was unfortunately one of the worst offenders for flaking and it lasted all day, hurrah, finally.

I think this primer is pretty reasonably priced at £11, though I think I would probably pay double if it kept my mascara on all day long. I definitely recommend trying out this primer if you have the same problem. You can buy it wherever Clinique is sold.

Have you tried this primer, what are your thoughts, also do you have any mascara primer recommendations for me?

XOXO Claire

  1. £11 is very reasonable! I remember using a double brushed mascara before which had a primer with it and it was really good! I think I will have to put this on my Christmas list! :)x

    1. Oooh I think I might have used one of those double ended mascaras, quite a few years ago, but I'm glad to say the formulation has changes somewhat since, which is definitely a good thing lol :-)

  2. Great review hun, I have never tried a mascara primer before but this sounds really interesting and good that the white does cover up cause that could be a little embarrassing lol.

  3. This sounds really good! It's amazing that it worked with Benefit's They're Real because that mascara just does not last on me at all! x

    1. It's weird because when I first got they're real it was fine but then all of a sudden it started flaking like crazy, thank goodness I tried the primer :)

  4. Oh I didn't realise Clinique did anything like this! It's good that it's working out for you- nothing worse than smudgy eyes!! I'd like to see the condition of my lashes improve with one (it's one of my worries at the moment..) I am thinking of trying the Estee Lauder lash primer x
