My Rubbish Selfridges Beauty Workshop Lucky Bag

I normally only post about positive things on my blog but today I thought I would make a small exception, there has been lots of excitement over the last week about the Selfridges Beauty Workshop Lucky Bag, being the beauty obsessive that I am, I hoped over and ordered one for myself after I'd seen a preview of what you could get from another blog. It arrived today and...well, I'll just show you:
Selfridges Beauty Workshop Lucky Bag

I received :
Beauty Junkie Aromatherapy Face Mask (£2)
Tissues (really)
Inner Me Lustrous Locks Vitamin Complex (£15)
Blink Eyebrow Shaping Gift Card (£17)
Beauty Candy
Duck Lipbalm (£4)

Well what can I say, disappointment is an understatement, I would never try any kind of "beauty" vitamin or candy, in my eyes they are definitely a gimmick and are pretty much just made of sugar.

The Blink eyebrow shaping, while a nice idea, I live around 4 hours away from a Selfridges so it's not something I would be able to use easily. I know it's not their fault for that one, but it would probably cost me more in traveling than what the card is worth.

The tissues, lipbalm and face mask don't deserve a comment, really, in who's eyes are they a high end product, do they even sell them in Selfridges?

I'm speechless, this bag doesn't look anything like the ones some bloggers got sent, for free I may add, this cost me £20 with postage, and I wouldn't use anything. Needless to say I'm going to try to return it. They say there are only 1000 available, I wonder how many are duds.

Now I just have to say I have no problem with other bloggers receiving products from brands to spark interest and increase sales, I probably wouldn't have seen this product without reading someone's blog, but when it looks like their bags or boxes have been cherry picked, it really annoys me. It's one of the reasons I'm not subscribed to beauty boxes anymore.

Sorry I sort of jumped on my soapbox there, but it really gets my goat, judging by the girls I've talked to on twitter today though, it looks like I'm not the only one who's not very happy.

Did you order, a in my case, no so lucky bag bag, what did you get and are you happy?

 XOXO Claire

  1. I completely agree! I got tired of seeing the 'ambassadors' get these amazing boxes while the people who pay get the same products or not very good ones. After seeing the first review from someone who had actually paid for it i didnt see the point, it looked rubbish. hopefully you can return it. x

    1. I just think the whole "beauty box" idea is dying out, fingers crossed they will accept it back, I think lots of other people will be doing the same.

  2. I agree with what you have to say whole heartedly, i must admit i got a slightly better bag (but only from luck of the drawer!!)

I got a blink eyebrow gift card too (really handy for me, but i think they should have put a disclaimer of the bag for people that live miles away?) nail art stickers (that i would never use but i was actually looking for some for a secret santa so quite lucky!?) st tropez sample of tan, dermalogica face exfloliator, and a weird all purpose soap.

so whilst i cant really moan, i am like you rather disappointed! :-( xxx

    1. Oooh the dermalogica face exfloliator sounds interesting, I think the whole execution was rubbish and the price was a lot more than it should have been.

    1. I was probably the most put out over the tissues, I would have expected something like that from Glossybox but not a brand like Selfridges. Daisy says thank you :-)

    1. Me either it was my mum who mentioned it, but it makes sense, I think it was more about selling them than whats actually in it, unfortunately :(

  10. I never ordered one but I wouldn't be impressed if that lot was in my bag. Whatever brainiac came up with this beauty bag idea needs a reality check. I doubt they would be impressed if they received it.

    1. I know, who ever picked the contents obviously don't know anything about beauty.

  11. Everyone paid for the bag - only one Blogger got it free in order to maintain the illusion that the bags were of any kind of quality. I'd laugh my socks off if everyone returned them and they were back to a warehouse full of crap where they started before this whole sorry mess!

I'm sorry for your bag hun - I think it has to be, in actual fact - the worst bag I've seen out of all of them. I would send it bag tout suite with a strongly worded letter explaining your huge disappointment at their false advertising and poor execution. And make sure you get your delivery costs back too!!

    xx

  12. oh my goodness i am annoyed for you! Thats not fantastic is it :| i never even thought about how beauty boxes 'cherry pick' products but yes i totally see now how some of them might market their products this way - im not suscribed to any and i don't think i will do to be honest.. its luck of the draw..but by the sounds of it a lot of people were disappointed with the Selfirdges lucky bags - me thinks a few bloggers got sent some wonderous cherry pickings!

Id also try to return it - and id also write an email/letter - worded nicely but saying it how it is.. it's not on really is it. The lipblam is rather cute but the products look sample sized?! Let us know if you hear anything beaut xxx

  14. ooh also, just seen that you are in Leeds - there is a Selfridges where you can use your gift card in Manchester - I know it's not super close but it's a lot better than London!

  15. I'm so glad mine wasn't the only one that was a dud. I've decided to send mine back as I don't think the quality was up to scratch considering this was a Selfridges lucky bag xx
