Product Review & Swatches: YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains

Except from my beloved Mac lipsticks, I've never really been one for expensive lip products, I think it mainly had something to do with my lips being in rubbish condition, but thanks to my new favourite lip balm they have been completely transformed. Instead of centering my make up look around my eyes, all I think about now is lip products. As I had heard so much buzz about the YSL Glossy Stains, armed with my new found lip freedom, I had to see what all the fuss was about.

First of all what exactly is a glossy stain? Well it's essentially a hybrid. It has the pigmentation of a lip stain, consistency of a lipstick and the sheen of a lip gloss.

Let's have a closer look shall we:

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains Number 10
L-R: Number 10 & Number 14

As with all YSL products their packaging really is gorgeous, very slimline, perfectly classic, everything I would expect from a Parisian make up brand. The heart shaped applicators are a little different to what I'm used to, but I actually prefer them, it makes applying the product so much easier, especially around the cupids bow area. I also really like that you can see the particular colour through the front of the bottle.

Here I am wearing both colours, so you can see what they look like on the lips:

Number: 10 Red

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy StainsNumber: 14 Golden Fuchsia (this one is a little darker than the picture is showing)

The staying power of these glossy stains is absolutely amazing, number 10 in particular stays on all day. Even the glossy topcoat stays around for a lot longer than any other lip gloss I have ever tried. The best thing I've found is that I'm not constantly worried that my lipstick will have smeared or smudged onto my teeth. That's one of my main worries when I use my bright Mac lipsticks, I always need a mirror to hand, but with the YSL ones you don't need to.

The only sticking point to these beautiful lip products is that they are not very purse friendly. YSL is notoriously expensive and at £22.50 each definitely not for everyone, but the quality is beyond amazing. I will definitely be saving up so I can add a few more colours to my collection. They would make fabulous birthday and Christmas presents, you feel so swanky using them, like a film star.

Here they are swatched on my hand:

You can order them from quite a few places, Debenhams, Feel Unique, Boots or alternatively you can go to a YSL counter. I would suggest maybe going to a counter though, as all the swatches online can tend to look a little different.

Have you tried any of the Glossy Stains? Do you think they are worth the money? Let me know what you think.

XOXO Claire

  3. I have one in Prune minimale. I went all around boots then all around a House of Frasier beauty hall looking for my ideal purple lipstick, gloss or stain and it was the only one that fitted the bill so for me definitely worth it. However not worth it for common place colours, and not enough product for a daily wear lipgloss.
