Product Review: Nars Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

For the majority of my make up life I was a devoted Urban Decay Primer Potion girl, I never questioned it, it always did the job. Over the last 6 months though I started to notice that my eyeshadow didn't tend to last as long as it used to, by the end of the day there would be virtually no eyeshadow left, not acceptable! I decided it might be time to test the primer waters and see what else was out there. Well ladies, my alliances may have changed thanks to Nars.

Nars Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Review
Product Review: Nars Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

After reading all the high praise this primer comes with, I decided to take the bull by the horns and give it a try, I don't know, I guess I was feeling bit flush that day. Well this primer blows all the other ones I've tried out of the water.

It's so amazingly lightweight and not in the slightest bit greasy, in fact you can barely see, let alone feel this product on your eyelids. You only need the tiniest amount and it literally makes your eyeshadow last all day. I really put it to the test last month, when I flew back from Florida. I'm one of those people that has to wear a little bit of makeup whilst traveling, especially if you have to hang around an airport all day, I didn't want to scare the other travelers with my bare face.

Anyway, I applied this primer and a few eyeshadows from my Stila In The Light Palette, a bit of tinted moisturiser and mascara and I was good to go. Keep in mind this was at about 8am, fast forward 24 hours. Well my eyeshadow was still in place, even after 24 hours of traveling and attempted sleep (I can never sleep on planes). The rest of my make up was a bit worse for wear but my eyeshadow was immaculate, not one crease in sight. I think that speaks for itself. I don't think any other eyeshadow primers I've used lasted 6 hours, let alone 24, I think you would have to agree, that is some feat.

If you have very oily eyelids or if your eyeshadows never seem to last throughout the day, I definitely recommend trying this primer, it is a tad expensive but I think it's completely worth it. I don't know about you, but if I spend a certain amount of time blending out my eyeshadow, I want, no, expect it to last all day, and this is the only thing I've used that does just that.

Have you tried out this primer, what do you think? Also what is your primer of choice?

XOXO Claire

  1. For now, my favorite primer is still Urban Decay Primer Potion. The first thing I tried was Too Faced Shadow Insurance and it didn't really work for me, my eyeshadow still creased and it didn't seem to make much of a difference to the wear time. UDPP still works well, though, and I've been using it for years. When I run out, I might try this one, though -- after all, as a blogger it's my job to try a bunch of different things so there's variety in my posts, right? :) Great review!

    1. Thank you, I didn't get on with the Shadow Insurance either, it was a bit too runny for me :)

  2. I do not tend to try Nars for this kind of product so I have not used this before (I tend to use Urban Decay too)

But I would pay £19 if it worked well, like you said, especially after all that blending!

    1. £19 is a little steep, but I would rather pay extra for something that I would know works every time, UPP was really hit and miss. Plus there's not really that much in the price anymore anyway :)
