Beauty Edit: My Top 4 Nail Polish Topcoats

In my world nail polish topcoats are as essential as soap. One of my biggest pet peeves is chipped nails, so making sure my newly applied colour stays looking it's best, is imperative. Recently I decided to put my beloved Seche Vite to the side and try a few other bands to see if I could find something that did the same job, if not better. There were some interesting results, let me key you in.

4 Of The Best Nail Polish Topcoats
Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat £9.85
This little bottle is pure top coat gold and I always make sure I have a back up waiting in the wings. If you would like to read my review in full, here's the link.

Nails Inc Caviar Top Coat £12
Ok, so finding a topcoat that's as special as Seche Vite is no mean feat, but this little baby from Nails Inc may be the closest I've come yet. It drys the nails just as quickly as Seche Vite, without a bedding imprint in sight. I painted my nails before bed just to make sure. They were glossy and and lasted around 4-5 days with only minimal chipping. If you would like to see this top coat in action, here's a recent NOTD. The only downside of this topcoat is the colour, it can tend to slightly alter the shade of your nail polish, especially if it's a light colour. It's not a huge change, but it's something to think about if you only wear lighter colours.

This top coat is a tad more expensive than the Seche Vite, but I'm hoping it won't have the same gloopy issue. I will definitely let you know.

Deborah Lippmann Addicted To Speed Top Coat £18 (mini)
As this top coat is called addicted to speed I was expecting good things and it sort of delivered. It again dried pretty quickly, but I would say it took a little longer than the SV & NI ones. The formulation is also a bit thinner, so it did drag across the nails a little. Again my nails were glossy and they lasted around 4 days before any chipping occurred. As the priciest option, I did have big expectations, though sadly it didn't live up to them. In my opinion it's very over priced.

Butter London Hardwear PD Quick Top Coat £15
Sadly this was my least favourite top coat, it took the longest time to dry and I still had a few dints. The most disappointing thing was that I had chips after 8 hours, so basically as soon as I woke up. Not good Butter, not good!

Overall I was really impressed with the Nails Inc topcoat, it really deserves all the hype. As to whether it will surpass my love for Seche Vite, only time will tell on that one!

What's your favourite top coat? I'd love some drugstore recommendations? Have you tried any of the ones I've mentioned?

XOXO Claire

  2. I too love the Seche Vite top coat. It's such a wonderful product that really does what it says. When mine starts to go gloopy, I just add a few drops of nail polish remover which really helps to thin it down and doesn't seem to effect the quality.

    1. Ditto, though sometimes I find it difficult to get the remaining product out of the bottle near the end, which is a tad annoying ;)
