How To: My Inexpensive Nail Polish Storage Idea From Ikea

If you're a serious nail polish addict / hoarder like me you will know how difficult it is to figure out how to store them all. Do you want all your pretty shades hidden away in a drawer so no one can judge you and your habit, or out on display looking all gorgeous and colour coordinated like a rainbow. Well, if you're into the latter, I might have found the perfect solution thanks to a recent visit to my second home, Ikea.

Just look at this beautiful display, they say love is in the eye of the beholder, well my heart goes boom, boom, boom when I look at this wall of colour.

Ikea Mosslanda Picture Ledge 55cm  £4.90 Each
Ikea Mosslanda Picture Ledge 115cm  £7.90 Each

These shelves were originally designed for pictures, but to me they were destined for nail polish! Not only do they come in two lengths (I have the 55cm ones) they are the ideal width. I've tried so many shelves and bookcases before and my polishes just got lost, so these are beyond perfection. Not only that, they are insanely cheap, all five shelves cost under £25...bargain!

Just on one shelf you can fit 19 Essie or 16 China Glaze polishes and you can fit two rows, so technically one shelf can accommodate up to 39 bottles depending on the brand. I have checked and OPI do fit, though you can't fit in as many individual bottles. Obviously the longer shelves will be able to house more bottles, but I liked the look of the shorter ones, so I put up five - one above the other. I absolutely love how it tuned out, every time I walk into my room I just smile, after all it is the small things in life!

Hopefully this post gave you a nail polish storage idea or pointed you in the right direction.

Let me know how you store your nail polish, are you drawer or display kind of girl? I've done a post I would love to see it!

  1. Brilliant idea. Practical and it looks really nice too. Mine are all in a draw at the mo but I'd love to put them on display x
