Autumn/Winter Beauty Edit 2015

Dark berry lips, intensely rich, jewel toned nails, metallic eyeshadows that literally look like liquid gold. Plump rosy cheeks that flush from the fresh, cool air. What's not to love about Autumn (or Fall) make up?

In my opinion beauty really comes into its own at this time of the year. Summer is all about the minimalistic "make up" approach, but in Autumn you really can experiment and go wild. Despite the fact that I'm currently on holiday in Florida, which is not exactly known for its crisp autumn weather, (I almost always have a SULA - that's sweaty lip action if you didn't know) I'm still enjoying a whole host of seasonally appropriate products. So today I thought I would do a little Autumn beauty edit for you.

Autumn Beauty Edit

When it comes to bases, I tend to change my mine quite often. One day I'll try to achieve a lovely dewy glow, the next I want a complete matte look. Lately I've been mixing a radiance primer, like this one from Laura Mercier with my chosen foundation. I bought the Loreal Infallible Matte foundation a while ago, but I found it used to gather in my pores. So, I started mixing in a bit of primer and it definitely helped resolve that problem, plus you get a hit of radiance and added longevity.

Mac Lady Danger Lipstick

When it comes to autumn worthy lips I always turn to Mac, they do some of the most long lasting, buttery smooth formulas and the shade range is pure perfection. Two of my favourites shades are Lady Danger, which is a beautiful matte red and Dark Side, a dark (obviously) burgundy. They both have great staying power and really make a statement. When it comes to dark colour I always try to use a lip liner in conjunction with the lipstick, unless it's a liquid lipstick, just because it helps give a clean edge and helps the colour stick around a little longer. I'm huge fan of the Rimmel ones, they are so inexpensive, but really give more luxury brands a run for their money with their creamy formula.

Mac Mellon Pigment

Neutral eyeshadows have always been my standard, go-to colour palette when it come to my eye make up. For finish I'm definitely a metallic girl, as you can see from above and Mac Melon Pigment is one of my favourites. It's so versatile and looks good on every eye colour, sometimes I like to spray my brush with Fix + to intensify the colour even more, trust me it's beautiful. I do seem to use my pigments more often in the autumn season, this shade called Gold Stroke is another one of my faves (though I wouldn't exactly call it gold, would you?) Sometimes I like to dabble in cream eyeshadows though I do have a bit of creasing issue, even with my Nars Pro Primer, but this beautiful shade from Charlotte Tilbury is lovely as a light wash of colour.

Clinique Moisture Surge
Zelens Z22 Absolute Face Oil | Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief

As the weather gets progressively colder, I always pull out a few products to help keep my skin under control. Even though I have combination skin, it can be prone to a few dry patches, mainly if I've had a few breakouts, so like to keep it nice and hydrated. This sample of Zelens face oil makes my skin look lovely and refreshed when I wake up, I'm still testing it but I like it so far. The Clinique Moisture Surge is a great nighttime treatment, it's a gel formula but does the job when I need a moisture boost.

Essie Sole Mate Nail Polish
Essie Truth & Flare | Essie Aruba Blue | Essie Sole Mate

Autumn doesn't have to be all about dark dreary nail colours, just look at these shades from Essie. I pluck them out as soon as October hits, and they don't go back till March. Truth & Flare is just stunning, so chic and it's one of those colours that just goes with everything. A metallic blue and burgundy are certainly staples in my nail polish wardrobe, to me these sorts of shades and autumn just go hand in hand!

What's currently in your Autumn/Fall edit, is there something I seriously need to considering adding to mine?

XOXO Claire

  2. I also like to use a highlighter with my foundation. Some days I will mix it in with my foundation like you do and other days I will apply it like 'primer' and apply my foundation on top of it. I haven't tried those MAC lipsticks. The purple one looks very similar to Rebel which I wore yesterday lol! Xx

  10. It's beautiful isn't it, as long as I set it with a similar shade of powder shadow it lasts a long time :)

  11. *insert ALL the heart-shaped eyes emojis*!!! This is such a great post Claire! I particularly love the fact you found the exact lip pencil match for the MAC lipsticks (which are absolutely gorgeous by the way). I have a thing for greyish polishes at the moment and definitely love Truth & Flare. I think it will be next on my list! Xx
