Disappointing Beauty Products: Luxury Edit #2

You know they say beauty is subjective, well that phrase certainly rings true for me with this bunch of beauty products. We really didn't get on, in fact considering the price points for the majority of these products, I'm very disappointed. So I thought it was only fair to show them to you, considering I often only rave about my favourite beauty products and there does have to be some balance, even if this post sounds a bit negative. Now bare in mind, just because these products didn't work for me, doesn't necessarily mean they are bad products - in fact a few of these have been raved about countless times, we just didn't mesh.

Kerastase Chronologiste Revitalizing Exfoliating Care.
In theory this product sounded amazing. I've been having a bit of a problematic scalp recently, it's very dry and lets just say I have a bit of a flake issue, so an exfoliating pre-shampoo treatment sounded like heaven. Unfortunately I really didn't notice a difference in the condition of my scalp, it didn't seem to soothe it. To be honest it just added in an extra step I could have done without, not to mention it's pretty expensive, £22 a bottle and despite the packaging being very easy on the eyes, it didn't really work for me.

Bumble & Bumble Don't Blow It Hair Styler.
This product was made for lazy girls like me who just can't be bothered to pull out the hair dryer. It's a cream that you put into damp hair to add texture and just let it air dry. Absolutely love the idea, it just didn't work for me, I don't know whether I used too much product, but my hair sometimes looked a bit lank, others times it looked greasy, I couldn't find a happy medium. If you have this product I would love to know how you use it, because it's a great idea.

Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream.
Orbie is a super expensive brand so when you get given a sample you assume it's gonna be good one, despite your wallet quivering. It's supposed to help with fly-aways and leave your hair glossy and smooth, but this cream did absolutely nothing for my hair. In fact you could barely tell I had used anything at all. I think I'll stick to the Living Proof 5in1 treatment!

First Aid Beauty Freshen Up Set.
I'm a huge fan of FAB so this one did take me by surprise. Let's discuss the lip balm first, for something that says "ultra repair" I expected baby soft lips, which was not the case. I took this balm on holiday (instead of my Nuxe one for convenience) and my lips were the most chapped they have ever been. Thankfully my lips are now back to normal after being reunited. Lesson learnt, never travel without my Nuxe balm.

Moving onto the "Hydrating" Face Mist. The name would suggest that it's super hydrating, however I found that my skin felt really tight after I'd applied it, which I'm pretty sure isn't the aim (sense the sarcasm?).

Estee Lauder Enlighten EE Cream.
I love the serum in this line so I had high hopes for this cream, but I just wasn't blown away. It has a little bit of a tint, but not enough to get away without applying foundation. It's also a bit on the orange side and I never choose it over my regular moisturiser honestly, it's just a bit mehh.

Ok, so I might be in the minority with this one but just hear me out. I have extremely oily eyelids and under eyes, so concealer is one of the products I have the most issues with. With this one in particular, I just find the formula way too creamy. If you have dry under eyes I think this one would work amazingly well, but on me it just creases straight away. I will definitely keep trying with it though, as I'm sure there are other girls out there with the same problem, if you do - let me know how you resolve it?

Kat Von D Lock It Concealer.
I haven't been able to test this concealer out purely because I bought the wrong colour (doh). I did get the lightest shade but it's just way too orange. I know, I know, that should teach me my lesson for buying blind and ordering online. I normally just buy the lightest shade and the majority of the time I have enough wriggle and blending room to make it work, but this one makes me look like an umpa lumpa (not cute).

Have you had any success with these products, where am I going wrong, let me know? Also let me know if by some miracle you agree with me!

XOXO Claire

  1. Really enjoyed reading this post - it's always good to read honest reviews. It's so disappointing when you buy a product and it doesn't live up to the hype! xx

  4. I've not tried the foundation but I am going to persevere with the concealer, hopefully if I can find the right combination it will work :)

  5. I am really sorry that you didn't enjoy the lip balm, this one is my favorite along with Nuxe. Also have you tried to use the Kat von D concealer as a corrector prior to your usual concealer? this way it wouldn't go to waste :)
