Product Review: Mario Badescu Skincare

Inexpensive yet effective skincare is really hard to come by in my experience, it's very rare that I wander into Boots shopping for my skin, except to repurchase my favourite Micellar Water. I know I'm guilty of dropping a pretty penny, especially on cleansers and face masks (they're my weakness F.Y.I) Recently though I've come across a brand that's pretty wallet friendly, especially considering the quality of the products, and that brand is Mario Badescu.

This brand has designed a whole line of products specifically targeted for different skin types and concerns for over 40 years, so there's definitely something for everyone. Today I'm gonna talk you through a bunch of products I've picked up over the last three or four months, that have really impressed me. If you have the same skin-type as me, combination with a few similar concerns - spots and pigmentation, hopefully this post could be helpful to you.

This is the first product I tried from the MB brand, which was quite a few years ago now and I've continued to repurchase it ever since. It's a spot treatment aimed to target whiteheads (yuck) that's made up of Calamine and Salicylic Acid, that you apply to each individual spot and leave overnight. Yes, you do look like you have chicken pox but trust me, it's worth it. It really dries them out and when I wake up my spots look much less inflamed, it's a complete miracle worker. It's also gentle enough for all skin-types, so if you do suffer with spots I definitely recommend this treatment. The bottle may look small, but it does last you a long time, just remember to screw the lid on properly (I may have left it off once, oops).

I received this miniature free with a recent Beauty Bay order and I really love it. I like to use it as a toner, so I apply it to a cotton pad and wipe it over my face after I've removed my make up. Aimed at oily skin it acts as a gentle disinfectant, removing any left over makeup, residue or oil. It basically preps the skin, ready for your night-time moisturiser, oil or treatments. I also think it's helping prevent spots as it makes sure my skin is extra clean. This lotion is aimed at oily/combination skin, but it doesn't make your skin feel dry or tight, so I'm very impressed and I may be repurchasing the full size when my sample runs out.

Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion // £15.50 // Link
I first mentioned this lotion in my "February Favourite's Post"and I'm still loving it. While the Drying Lotion targets whiteheads (yuck), this lotion is designed to help sooth those painful under the skin, cystic type spots, which I seem to be having quite a few of at the moment. I just apply a little to my finger and pat onto my trouble areas. It really takes down the swelling, literally overnight. It does say to use every other night, as some of the ingredients could dry out the skin, but I haven't had any of those issues.

Mario Badescu Silver Powder // £10.25 // Link
This powder is probably the most interesting product out of the bunch, it's essentially a loose powder that when combined with water turns into a pore fighting paste. Ok, I added the pore fighting bit, but that's actually what it does. It draws out all the impurities and gunk and my pores look so much clearer. The only negative thing about this powder is that it's a powder, it's quite messy. I would definitely not recommend wearing a black top when you use it (seriously, learn from my mistakes haha) So how do I apply it? Well, I just dampen a cotton bud, dip into the product and press onto my skin, mainly my chin and nose. Another thing about this "mask" I use that word loosely, it's more of a pore treatment, is that after 10-15 minutes you can remove it with your regular toner. Which is great for someone like me who loves using masks, but hates the task of removing them.

This is the product I'm still on the fence about. Hyper-pigmentation / scaring is notoriously hard to reverse and it can take months to notice a difference in your skintone. The mask itself is lovely and hydrating, so while I haven't seen huge difference in my scaring yet, I'm hopeful.

Mario Badescu Healing & Soothing Mask // £15.95 // Link
I like to use this mask to sooth my skin after using the above spot treatments, which can sometimes leave my skin feeling a little parched. It's got a tonne of ingredients to help irritation and redness, plus it's super hydrating, perfect for people with sensitive skin and acne. I also find that my skin is really soft hours after I've used it and who doesn't love soft skin?

Overall I'm super impressed with the Mario Badescu skincare line, they really know their stuff and I'm certainly interested in trying more from their line in the future.

Have you tired any Mario Badescu skincare products? What are some of your recommendations?

XOXO Claire

  4. Mario Madescu is such a great brand and I really feel like it really doesn't get as much praise that it should in the beauty community. Of the products you have mentioned I have only tried the Drying Lotion and Silver Powder and both are amazing and extremely effective products! Just quietly, while i am writing this comment I am actually wearing said Drying Lotion on my face while in bed haha. I also love their Glycolic Acid Toner, which is very similar to the Pixi Glow Tonic! x
