Make Up Edit: Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks*

Despite the beauty world's ongoing obsession with liquid lipsticks, I'm well aware that matte finishes aren't for everyone. Even the Liquid Lipstick Addict, sometimes needs to take a break. They can definitely take a toll on the condition of your lips, even with a deep conditioning lip balm underneath. So when I received Maybelline's newest lip product release, with the promise of a comfortable, satin matte finish, I got really excited. Let's take a look at the collection, shall we?

Maybelline Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks* £6.99 Each. From left to right we have: Coral Courage, Nude Flush, Orange Shot, Nude Thrill, Berry Blast, Possessed Plum, Rebel Red & Electric Pink.

Maybelline have a come up with a really diverse shade range, including some gorgeous everyday nudes, to bright pops of colour that are perfect for summer. So how do the Vivid Mattes stack up against your standard liquid lipstick? Well, the texture is more of a mouse than a liquid. They don't necessarily have the longevity of your regular liquid lipstick, especially the brighter shades, but the satin finish makes them comfortable on the lips, and the light formula means they're easy to reapply, while still being creamy and pigmented and best of all inexpensive.

Nude Flush is quickly becoming one of my staple shades, it's such an easy throw on colour, it literally goes with every kind of look. I know, what's happening to me? I've definitely been embracing the nude lips lately, which I honestly never saw coming, but I'm just going with it, you can never have enough nude lipstick can you?
The only downside I would say these lip products have is that they do transfer, due to the fact that they don't completely dry down. They are most definitely a satin finish, so they may not be for everyone, especially those who enjoy eating a full english roast while having every inch of their liquid lipstick intact. To me these lipsticks make the perfect lip-liner topper, something to add a bit of extra dimension without the uncomfortable feeling that real liquid lipsticks give.

So while their name may not be exactly correct, they are a bunch of gorgeous lip colours that would be a great starting point for people who want to dip their toes in the liquid lipstick pond, even though they aren't technically "matte".

Have you tried the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick range? What are your views on the formula, do you have a favourite shade?

  1. I keep eyeing these up whenever I'm in Boots but never have quite taken the plunge, the bright colours are beautiful but it's such a shame they do transfer, I might try 'Nude Finish' instead though :)

  2. Coral Courage looks beautiful! Also, Nude Flush & Berry Boost! xx

  3. I really like the colour Nude Thrill, but I have to say I find it quite annoying when brands do this. I feel quite a few of the affordable brands like Maybelline, L'Oreal and Revlon have been marketing new lipstick launches as matte liquid lipsticks (because they are so popular rn) when their products are not truly matte. It's a bit suspect to me. Like, do they think we won't notice? Still, great colours and gorgeous swatches, thanks for sharing! xxx

  4. I love the Nude Flush shade, it's so easy to throw on, especially when combined with the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lips Liner :)

  5. Nude Flush is without a doubt my favourite shade, I haven't summoned up enough courage to wear the Coral shade yet, but I think it needs to be done :)

  6. No problem, I can see where you're coming from, I think they may have just tried to keep both camps happy. I like the formula, but if true liquid lipsticks that don't move are what you're looking for, these won't fit the bill :)

  7. I have Nude Flush and Electric Pink and I found them to be really disappointing! I expected them to be matte in finish so I was really disappointed when I found out they weren't x

  8. I have been eyeing these a lot lately! They sound great in theory and the shade range is gorgeous! I'm not too sure if I like the fact that they are not long lasting however as that is one of things I love about liquid lipstick! I will probably still give these a try though, love the nude shades xx

  9. i'm so sooo happy that maybelline has some liquid lipsticks in their range now. the nude colours look so good.

  10. Nude Flush is quickly becoming one of my favourite go-to nudes :)

  11. I'm sorry they didn't work out for you, I personally don't mind Nude Flush, not many nude shades suit my skin tone, so I'm always super happy when I find one. I tend not to wear it if I'm planning on eating a big meal though haha :)

  12. They definitely don't stand up to other LL in terms of longevity, but they are pretty comfortable on the lips, I just tend to wear them when I don't plan on eating anything haha ;)

  13. Even though they are more of a satin finish vs matte, they are still really comfortable on the lips and are so inexpensive! ;)

  14. These look amazing! can't believe I didn't know these existed! Nude Flush and Nude Thrill look amazing!

  15. Nude Flush is definitely my favourite shade :)

  16. Now these are a liquid lipstick that I am yet to try yet! It's a shame they don't completely dry down to a matte finish but I do love the look of those nude shades. xo Rebecca | xorebeccalouise.com

  17. They definitely don't have the staying power of regular liquid lipsticks but they are pretty, especially the shade Nude Flush :)

  18. Love the look of Nude Flush, it's definitely my ideal nude shade!

    Emily xo

  19. It's a lovely colour, plus it doesn't wash me and my pale skin out :)
