Summer Beauty Edit: 10 Holiday Essentials

Whether you're jetting off to a glamorous tropical location, planning a fun filled Disney experience,
having a sun soaked girls only trip, or just a chilled out staycation, one thing remains the same - wherever a beauty blogger goes, so does her giant makeup bag. Creating the perfect capsule travel "beauty wardrobe" is incredibly hard. So I've done all the hard work for you. I've put together a few of what I think, are my "Summer Holiday, Beauty Essentials" that will save you a tonne of room in your carry-on, ready for all those duty free exclusives.

When the sun's shining the last thing I want to be doing is caking on a full face of foundation. In the warmer months I'm all about light, easy to apply bases. A personal favourite of mine is the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream, I even flew halfway across the world to pick it up (oh the jokes). It packs a punch when it comes to coverage, while still maintaining a light airy feel on the skin. It also contains a UVA/UVB Broad Spectrum SPF of 50, which is amazing, most bases very rarely have such a high SPF factor. So being able to even out my skintone, whilst staying protected is everything I look for in a holiday worthy base. The Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream is a nice alternative if you can't get your hands on the It one, though it doesn't give as much coverage.

What goes better with a newly acquired summer tan, than a gorgeous shimmer lotion. The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in "Moonstone" is the perfect product for adding a healthy golden glow. You can use it on the high points of you face, pop it along your decolletage and even down the front of your legs to embrace your inner JLO.

On holiday I don't really wear lip products (I know, shock horror) I just find it way too hot, especially for liquid lipsticks, plus my SULA (aka - sweaty upper lip action) kind of ruins the whole look. That being said, I do like to bring one bright, bold shade with me, mostly for the evenings. My lipstick of choice would most definitely be Charlotte Tilbury "Lost Cherry". It's a bright, bold, pink toned red, that can make any outfit or occasion feel special.

Keeping your lips hydrated on holiday is really important, especially when they're exposed to the elements: sun, sea, sand, and sangria hehe. The Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil not only give your lips a huge hydration injection, it also leaves a gorgeous glossy finish, with a hint of colour, that leaves your lips looking plump and juicy. The colour and finish make it the perfect lip product to re-apply throughout the day.

Multipurpose products are definitely the way to go. So picking a bronzer/contour shade that can also double up as an eyeshadow is a great option. The Burberry Skin Light Glow Blush in "Earthy Blush 07" adds some soft definition around the face, a wash over your eyelids and under the lashline, enhances your eye colour and just adds a little extra "something something".

Sticking with the multipurpose theme, the Josie Maran Pure 100% Argan Oil makes a great holiday beauty bag edition. It can be used to moisturise your newly tanned limbs, revive dry ends that have maybe seen too much sun and soothe cracked heels, so that your feet look amazing in your strappy sandals - the possibilities are endless.

Though the Caudalie Divine Oil is a nice alternative, as the JM one isn't available in the UK. I just chose the Josie Maran one because it has a pipette, which would make it easier for travel, but they both work along the same lines.

The under eye is one of the most delicate areas of the body, the skin under there is so thin it always needs extra protection. The Kiehls Clearly Corrective Dark Circle Perfector is definitely a holiday must have. Not only does it contain an SPF of 30, gotta protect those peepers, it has a slight tint meaning it helps cover those pesky dark circles, while hydrating and brightening the under eyes. It's a small tube, but you only need a pinprick sized amount.

Sun, sea and chlorine definitely play havoc with your hair, but who can be bothered waking up early every morning to wash their hair, nah, didn't think so. Thank goodness for Bumble & Bumble Pret A Powder. It's part dry shampoo, part volumiser, that soaks up grease and adds a little va va voom, giving your hair new life, so you can enjoy your holiday and if all else fails, just pop on a chic floppy hat!

In warmer weather, the last thing I feel like doing is moisturising my face, but the Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief makes the task much simpler. It's lightweight gel texture feels incredibly cooling on the skin, a welcome relief from hours in the sun. Your skin feels juicy, refreshed and hydrated. It's become a real staple for me, as you can probably tell from my almost empty tube.

I never take a full sized perfume when I travel, I have a huge fear of them smashing and showering my whole suitcase. Though everything would smell nice, I don't think it's very sensible, so I always collect miniature perfume samples - like Decadence by Marc Jacobs to take with me to try out, who knows if you find a new favourite you could buy the full sized in duty free.

Hopefully this gave you a few ideas of what essentials to add to your travel beauty bag. What are a few of your Summer Holiday Beauty Essentials, do you agree with the one I've picked? Are you going anywhere exciting this Summer?

  1. The Josie Maran oil sounds like an all-round beauty summer must-have. Really want to get my hands on the It Cosmetics cream, I know Pur Minerals do something similar and that has an SPF 40, you can buy it in M&S but it felt a little thick when I was playing around with it in store. Great post, love the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors, so pretty! Xx

  3. Thank you Kiran, the It Cosmetics CC Cream is so lovely, it has a surprising amount of coverage for a CC Cream I would 100% recomend it. I know QVC do sell some It products, but I'm not sure if they include the CC Cream :)

  9. Lmao I'm glad I'm not the only one that experiences SULA! It's so annoying! I'm all about lip stains/glosses/balms in the summer now since they're so much lighter than a liquid lip. The Bumble & Bumble Pret A Powder is seriously a life saver!!

  12. I think this post just saved my life - thank you x100. I'm heading off to Greece for a whole month in august to see my boyfriend's family, but it's going to be absolutely boiling plus I'm no makeup guru so I had no idea what to pack. This post gave me some great inspiration and I can see it being the cause of my wallet hating me.

Thank you again! You're an absolute star.

  17. I'm in love with the IT cosmetics CC cream!...I've always been intrigued by the Josie Maran Argan Oil, i'd love to give it a go, but I don't know how it will work on my super annoying "allergic to everything right now" skin, but I do love a good multi tasking product!

  18. I only use the JM oil on my body and hair, as I have quite sensitive skin on my face, but it's so lovely and moisturising, I think it has quite natural ingredients too. Dry oils are definitely my favourite way to moisturise my body, so quick and easy :)

  19. BB cream, tinted moisturiser, a nourishing hair mask and the Clarins instant light lip comfort oil are my summer essentials :-)
