Disappointing Beauty Products: Luxury Edit #3

No matter how many beauty products you try there will always be a few that end up being a bit of a disappointment, but it's even more of a disappointment when they cost a pretty penny, especially if they carry a lot of hype. So today I'm going to share a few products that just didn't work for me, you will definitely gather from this post that scents and tones play a huge part in whether a beauty product is a hit with me, so lets run through them, shall we?

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in "Carmello" & "Bellissima" £16
Now before you throw your respective laptop or phone across the room Naomi Campbell style in shock, I must state that it's the colours of these Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks, not the formula I have an issue with. They are both way too nude.  I have quite pigmented lips and they just make me look like I have the dreaded "concealer lips" which really isn't the look I'm going for! Though for the record, I do love their formulation, I wore the shade "Beso" to Taylor Swifts "Red" Tour a few years ago and still love it to this day, just make sure you pick the right shade for your skin tone.

I've mentioned on numerous occasions that my combination skin is quite sensitive to face oils, they normally make my skin break out and this one was no different. Despite the good reviews by many beauty bloggers, my whole face just erupted in spots, case closed. Plus I really didn't like the herbal scent. However I have found a skin oil that does work for me, you can read my What 10 Beauty Products To Buy From Space NK Post, to find out more.

I've come to the conclusion that one size fits all really doesn't work when it comes to CC Creams and pale skin. This one in particular left me looking like an Umpa Lumpa. The products comes out grey, but when I rub it in it just oxidises leaving me looking like a giant wotsit, no, no, no! It's also very expensive for such a small tube.

I really wanted to love these Beauty Balms especially the Illuminating one, but again they are just way too orange, which is great if I fancied dressing up as David Dickinson on Halloween, but not so much to achieve a chic, everyday base. I may keep the Illuminating one and try to mix it in with other things, but the others are definitely going to be tossed, moral of the story, swatch before you buy.

I'm always open to trying out a new Micellar water, they are one of my favourite beauty products to try because you can kind of form an opinion instantly. Unfortunately with this one I could only use it once. The scent was way too overwhelming, it actually made my eyes water it was so potent. For a product that claims to be gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin, I was very disappointed. I generally prefer my beauty products to have little to no scent, I couldn't even ascertain how well it removed my makeup, so this one was certainly a no for me.

Yet another oil that my face just didn't agree with. I'm beginning to think, from looking at this little list of products, that me and herbal fragrances just don't mix haha.

This balm cleanser is (supposedly) one of the worlds most famous makeup removers, but again I just couldn't stand the scent, it's very strong and even putting the scent aside, this balm really didn't do a good job at removing my makeup. To be honest I'm not a fan of Eve Lom products, everything I've tried have been either too heavily scented or just mediocre. I think I'll be sticking to my Omorovicza Thermal Balm, it really is the bees knees!

Disappointing Beauty Products: Luxury Edit #3
It's a brush I never reach for,  I just find the bristles on this Arched Powder Brush way too stiff and it doesn't apply product very well, especially considering it's one of the most expensive brushes from the RT Bold Metals range. I honestly expected more. That being said, I am still a huge RT fan, this little mishap hasn't deterred me from buying other brushes from their regular line, the Miracle Complexion Sponge is a staple in my makeup routine!

What luxury beauty products have you tried that really disappointed you? I'd love to know. For some reason the expensive one are way more interesting, plus it's good to know which one's to avoid.

  1. It's too bad that these were disappointing! I haven't actually tried any of these products at all. I found Benefit's They're Real to be a disappointing product for me, even though so many people love it!

  2. Great post! I absolutely agree with you on Eve Lom cleanser! I think S.C. Overnight Facial is very active and works better when just a drop is mixed with a moisturiser on sensitive skins. I've been disappointed by any Charlotte Tilbury skincare I've tried and it is so expensive! xx

  4. I hate feeling like I have wasted my money, so sad :( Gutted you dislike the bold metals brush, but won't waste my money on buying the same one now!

  5. I tried Benefit They're Real a long time ago and liked it for around a week then it dried up so I was unable to use it, so because of that it wasn't a huge hit with me. You don't have to spend a huge amount of money to find a decent"Drugstore" mascara, I love Seventeen Dolled Up and it's only £5 :)

  6. Thank you, the Eve Lom Cleanser just hurt my nose, yuck. As for Charlotte Tilbury, it is super expensive. I have a sample of the Magic Cream and it is lovely, but I could never drop £70 on a moisturiser, it gives me palpitations just thinking about it! :)

  7. Thank you, I don't know why I bought it to be honest, £25 is way more than I would ever spend on one brush, I think it was a moment of madness :)

  8. I do feel a little sad about the money, but then I think the ratio of amazing products vs rubbish ones is definitely in my favor, especially considering how many beauty products I try :)

  9. I love Stila Beso, but good to know. I'll plan on steering clear from their other shades. I personally feel like Stila is super hit or miss and I love some of their products, but then there's others.

  11. Beso is an amazing shade, as are Patina, Aria and Fiery. I just don't seem to get on with the very nude shades, they really wash me out :)

  12. I've seen them on other people and they look amazing, but on me they just looked terrible, way too nude :)

  13. It's a shame when luxury products don't work out, but it just goes to show that price does not mean quality/ that it'll be amazing. I wanted Caramello, but I think I'll be steering clear of that shade now!

  14. Absolutely, though I think I should definitely swatch things in real life a bit more often haha, especially when it comes to nude lipsticks :)

  15. What a shame to hear about the Stila products, as well as the Real Techniques brush! It's always a bummer when you pay a high price tag for something that just doesn't live up to your expectations! I've had that happen to me a lot with foundations specifically. Sucks!

  16. I love the Stila Liquid Lipstick formula, I just made a bad call with these two shades, the other shades I have are lovely! Foundations are so tricky, I've definitely learnt to swatch them in person now though :)
